A Full Metal crown is no different then any other crown except for the fact that it is made with 100% metal. Instead of layering the metal with porcelain to full contour as one would in most cases, the crown is instead built to full contour in metal.
There are many reasons why you would want a full metal crown but the most common is durability. A metal crown can withstand a lot more force then a porcelain layered crown, so in situations where a patient might have a very heavy bite and esthetics are not essential, a metal crown is an adequate solution.
